This protocol details the process of repainting the portraits of 7 Joseon kings – Taejo, Sukjong, Yeongjo, Jeongjo, Sunjo, Munjo (died as crown prince, but posthumously entitled as emperor), and Heonjong. All the portraits were burned during a fire that occurred in 1900 at Seonwonjeon, the royal portrait hall within Gyeongungung Palace (present-day Deoksugung Palace). The inscription on the red book cover testifies that it was compiled in 1901 and stored in the royal archive located in Ganghwa Island. The portrait of King Yeongjo (r. 1724-1776), currently stored in the NPMK, was repainted at the time, and this book records its production details.
