The Joseon wangjo sillok, the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, arranged in chronological order, is the vast collection of annual records of state affairs and the activities of Joseon’s monarchs for 472 years from the 1st ruler, King Taejo (r. 1392-1398), to the 25th, King Cheoljong (1849-1863). These particular annals used to be stored in the Mt. Odaesan Archive installed in 1606, the 39th year of King Seonjo (r. 1567-1608). They were taken out of Korea to Japan in 1913 during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945), and finally 75 volumes were returned in 2006. All of them were designated as national treasures and are currently housed in the National Palace Museum of Korea. The annals record the reigns of King Seongjong (r. 1469-1495) and King Jungjong (r. 1506-1544).
